The workaround below is only necessary if you are running Resource Central older than version 2.3.2000.
However, if you run Resource Central version  2.3.2000 or later and you don’t use Resource Finder to book resources, you still need the workaround.

Warning: The following procedure involves modifying the computer registry. This can cause substantial damage to the Microsoft Windows® operating system. Document and back up the existing registry entries prior to implementing any changes.

After applying SP2 for Outlook 2003, several of our customers experienced the following symptoms.

• Appointments are deleted immediately after they have been created.
• It takes a long time to book appointments, especially recurring appointments.
• Duplicate emails are retrieved when booking appointments.

Cause

The Resource Central application uses the EntryID of the message to get the EntryID of the Calendar item. When Resource Central requests the EntryID of the Calendar item, it fails because it cannot find the Calendar item corresponding to the EntryID.

In CDO.dll version 6.5.7232.95, Microsoft improved how meeting requests are processed when a user accepts them. This change prevents items from being deleted from the Calendar inadvertently. The new CDO functionality copies the properties of a meeting acceptance (which is written to the Calendar), saves the message, makes a duplicate of it, and deletes the original. The duplicate item has a different EntryID from the original and cannot be deleted unintentionally. This is referred to as meeting regeneration.

The Resource Central refers to the original EntryID when the Resource meeting request is processed. When a meeting acceptance is duplicated and deleted, the Resource Central application will get a new EntryID. As a result, duplicate mails are sent.

Workaround

Create a registry key to disable meeting regeneration.

1. Click Start > Run and type regedit.
2. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options\Calendar.
3. Right-click the Calendar folder and click New > DWORD Value.
4. Type DisableMeetingRegeneration for the new key name and press ENTER.
5. Double-click the new key and type 1 in the Value data field of the Edit String screen.
6. Click OK, close the Registry Editor.

You have set a custom default signature through Mailbox Central in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 during a terminal server session. After you exit and then restart Outlook, the default signature is reset.

Cause

This issue may occur when the FirstRun registry setting on the terminal server causes Outlook to create a new profile each time you start Outlook. Signature settings are saved in the profile. Therefore, the signature is lost each time you start Outlook and a new profile is created.

Resolution

Warning Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly by using Registry Editor or by using another method. These problems might require that you reinstall your operating system. To resolve this issue, delete the Import PRF registry value on the terminal server computer. To do this, follow these steps:

• On the terminal server computer, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

Symptoms

Even after properly configuring Resource Central, trouble may be encountered when attempting to retrive mails from ResourceCentral

Cause

This issue may occur if McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0 is installed on the computer that is running ResourceCentral Exchange integration. McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0 contains a feature to help prevent mass-mailing worm programs from sending SMTP e-mail messages. By default, this feature will stop prevent the application sending mails to the end users.

To determine whether McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0 is blocking alert notification messages, follow these steps:

1. Start the McAfee VirusScan Console program. To do this, right-click the McAfee VirusScan icon in the notification area, and then click VirusScan Console.
2. In the VirusScan Console dialog box, double-click Access Protection.
3. Click the Reports tab, and then click View Log.
4. If McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.0 is blocking alert notification messages, information that is similar to the following is displayed in this log file:

Resolution

To resolve this issue, modify the VirusScan Enterprise settings to let the RCemailservice.exe process send e-mail messages. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Start the McAfee VirusScan Console program. To do this, right-click the McAfee VirusScan icon in the notification area, and then click VirusScan Console.
2. In the VirusScan Console dialog box, double-click Access Protection.
3. In the Rule list, click Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail, and then click Edit.
4. Click to put the insertion point in the Excluded Processes box, press the RIGHT ARROW key to move the insertion point to the end of the entries that are displayed, and then type, RCemailservice.exe
   Note You must type a comma between each excluded process.
   
5. Click OK two times
